Plagiarism
// February 8th, 2010 // General Writing Tips
When it comes to writing, there is only one thing that writers should always avoid, and that’s plagiarism. Taking someone else’s ideas and publishing them as your own is a grave act. There have been writers who have gotten themselves in trouble because of plagiarism. It’s normal for writers to do some researching and data gathering before they write, and someone else did most of the materials that they will see. Now, it’s not really bad to take someone’s work and put in it your article just as long as you cite that as a reference.
There are some writers who tend to forget citing reference and giving credit for original work, and this is how plagiarism starts. For some writers plagiarism is the result of laziness. They find the article that they are looking for and copying it to their work without even taking the time to give credit to the source.
When writing from reference, a writer should always remember to work on the article using his own words. Rearranging or simply changing some of the words from the original article is a very bad practice and should be avoided by writers because, it could put them in a lot of trouble and it’s also not a good way to develop good writing skills.
Think of it this way, when writing from reference and putting it in your own words, that alone is like some sort of exercise for any writer. So the better you get at it, the better a writer you will become overtime, and finally, never ever forget to always indicate your source article when using any form of reference.
